4 of the Best Things to Do in Maine in the Summer

  1. Relax on the Beach

What’s a summer vacation without soaking in some rays on the beach? Boothbay Harbor has plenty of great beaches to visit. While some are known for their rocky alcoves, others are perfect for laying out a towel, digging your toes in the sand, and simply relaxing in the sunshine. Pemaquid Beach Park is recognized as one of the cleanest beaches in Maine! Barrett Park is located just a short walk from the Topside Inn and boasts plenty of scenic shoreline for you to explore.

  1. Go Boating

If you’re hoping to spend some time on the water this summer, you’re in luck! There is an abundance of opportunities for visitors to explore the waters of Boothbay Harbor during the summer. Whether you decide to rent a kayak for the day or set sail on a traditional schooner, we guarantee your boating excursion will become one of the highlights of your Maine getaway.

  1. New England Clambake

Clambakes are a summer staple in Maine, meaning this is an activity you won’t want to miss! One of our favorite places to enjoy this delectable seafood feast is Cabbage Island, a five and a half acre island located off the coast of Linekin Bay. Each summer since 1956, the owners of Cabbage Island invite visitors from all over to enjoy a scenic boat ride to the island and then share a tasty and traditional clambake. Your meal will include a steaming cup of New England fish chowder as well as two bright red lobsters, steamed clams, corn on the cob, and Maine potatoes. Don’t forget to try Mrs. Leavitt’s famous blueberry cake for dessert!

  1. Windjammer Days Festival

Windjammer Days is a week-long celebration in Boothbay Harbor that has quickly become one of the region’s most highly anticipated annual events. It honors Maine’s rich maritime history with plenty of family-friendly and unique activities such as an antique boat parade, a lobster eating contest, fireworks, and more. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in the history of Boothbay Harbor in a fun and memorable way.
