History of the Event

2012 was a bad year for the Boothbay Harbor lobster industry. The fish, which was once regarded as one of the world’s most sought-after proteins, was somehow cheaper than beef. When the community saw that local fishers were struggling, they wanted to help out; thus, the Claw Down was born.

The Boothbay Harbor Claw Down raised over $30,000 in its first year. About 250 tickets were sold to the event, and chefs from across the region used 200 pounds of Maine lobster to create fresh, delicious dishes for guests. Today, the Claw Down is a celebration of Maine’s signature crustacean, the people who harvest it, and the chefs that make it scrumptious.

The Claw Down Today

What began as a way to keep lobstermen afloat in a down season has become a highly anticipated culinary event. Ticket sales have more than doubled since 2012, and over 2,500 lobsters are sourced from local wharves to feed the masses. Attendees sample a wide range of savory offerings and cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award. You can also enjoy a selection of beers and wines from craft brewers and vintners. Be sure to bring your appetite.

Join This Year’s Excitement
