Why You Need to Plan a Day Trip to Oxbow Brewing Company

It’s a Great Way to Explore Our Beautiful Area

While we love Boothbay Harbor and think it doesn’t get much more beautiful than our waterfront scenery, the rural countryside in Maine is also stunning. When you visit Oxbow Brewing Company, you’ll enjoy a 30 to 35-minute drive inland. Along the way, you’ll discover awe-inspiring scenic landscapes, making the brewery the perfect day trip destination when you’re in the mood to go for a drive!

The Newcastle, ME, Brewery Offers a Unique Experience

Although Oxbow Brewing Company has a much larger tasting room and bottling facility in Portland, ME, about an hour and a half from Boothbay Harbor, we think the Newcastle Brewery offers an experience you can’t miss. When you check out the Oxbow website or take a peek at their bottles and labels, you’ll see the company slogan, “Loud Beer From a Quiet Place.”

That quiet place is in Newcastle, ME. The Oxbow brewery and tasting room in Newcastle is located in a renovated barn in the middle of the rural Maine countryside on a peaceful and scenic 18-acre farm. In between visits to the tasting room, you can explore miles of walking trails on the property, and take advantage of other great outdoor recreation opportunities that are coming soon! Within this rustic and beautiful property, you’ll also find a pond, woods, chickens, gardens, honey bees, and more.

You’ll Find Cool and Unusual Beer to Sample

According to Oxbow’s website, the farmhouse brewery specializes in “traditional Belgian-style ales with contemporary American influence.” When you visit, you’ll find an excellent selection of small-batch brews to try. The first bottle of the year, Catalyst, is a barrel-aged farmhouse ale featuring honey from the Newcastle brewery location. When you purchase a bottle at the tasting room, $1 of the sale will be donated to the Midcoast Conservancy. In addition, you’ll find three year-round specialties on draft, a farmhouse ale, American grisette, and Italian-style pilsner. The brewery also has a rotating list of bottled varieties, plus an ever-changing array of seasonal options.
